This involves locating the presence of asbestos (Surveying) carrying out remedial actions (Encapsulation) that are needed. Also managing the asbestos left in place on an ongoing basis.

What is involved in the Management process?

• Survey to locate asbestos containing materials (ACMs) within domestic, commercial and industrial premises
• Priority assessment - The risk of damage to the ACMs likely to cause fibre release
• Risk assessment - The severity of the risk combined with the likelihood of risk
• Create an asbestos management plan
• Implement a permit to work scheme
• Monitor and inspect the materials at regular intervals

An Asbestos Management Plan is then produced from the information detailed in the Risk Assessment. The plan will include details of what will happen to each asbestos containing material, when this will take place, who is responsible and to whom those people are accountable. The plan will also detail the Permit to Work scheme and detail the monitoring and reviewing of the asbestos survey and the management.
